About the Artist
JOSÉ IGNACIO NUÑO
Born in Mexico City in 1983, José Ignacio Nuño Escobedo completed his undergraduate studies in industrial design at the Universidad Iberoamericana, specializing in visual arts. His work is the result of a mix between classical painting, influenced by the mentorship of David Kassan and Shana Levenson at ArtCritAcademy, and abstract painting. The result: a perfect balance between the meticulous work of realism in portraits and the freedom represented by abstract art. Hence the name of the series: "Realism is healed with the abstract". In parallel, he strives to raise awareness of conservation and environmental issues through his project "Solitary Bees", in which he collects atypical bee species, classifies them, and uses them as a reference for his oils. The first painting in the series received an honorable mention at the VI Biennial of Painting Pedro Coronel. Additionally, FONCA granted him a scholarship to continue developing this project during an artistic residency in Spain, in the Catalan Pyrenees.
