About the Artist
PAULA CORTAZAR
She was born on July 21, 1991 in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León. In 2014, she graduated with honors from the Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Monterrey. She completed a residency in 2012 at the National Superior School of Fine Arts in Lyon, France. In 2013, she was selected to participate in the Contemporary Photography Program (PFC), an educational project of the Nuevo León Photographic Archive. In 2015, 2017, and 2020, she had solo exhibitions at the Machete gallery in Mexico City. Her work has also been featured in various national and international group exhibitions, including "Registro 05" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Monterrey, "+52 Recent Landscapes" at the CALOSA Foundation in Guanajuato, "United Mexican Projects" at the Wythe Hotel in New York, USA, among others. Her work was selected in the 2015 Support / Paper Bernardo Elosúa Farías Award. She has been recognized with various honors, including the Young Creators Scholarship 2020-2021 and 2015-2016 from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, the first prize in the 5th Photography Contest (2013) at the University of Monterrey library, and an honorable mention in the Unclassified exhibition (2012) by the San Pedro Cultural Center. She is currently represented by the Machete gallery in Mexico City and the Nosco gallery in Marseille, France.
