About the Artist
ALEJANDRO PINTADO
He studied a Bachelor‘s degree in Fine Arts at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda" in Mexico City and a Master‘s degree in Visual Arts at Goldsmiths College in England. Alejandro Pintado‘s research focuses on the historical memory of the landscape and its transformation over time. To do this, he has taken on the task of revisiting and subsequently editing the work of artists such as Claude Lorraine (1600-1682), Mortitz Rugendas (1802-1858) and José María Velasco (1840-1912). Pintado takes certain aspects of these artists‘ work by selecting pristine landscapes and then intervening with contemporary objects. This confrontation of dissonant elements alludes to the notion of modernity where all epochs of history coincide in the same moment. In Pintado‘s work, the presence of nature in contrast with artificiality is somewhat ambiguous, it is not clear whether the landscape dominates artificiality or if nature has invaded these constructed spaces.
